Are exotic pets illegal in Spain?
Partly. Exotic pets are restricted in Spain. Positive list in the 2023 law, but the species decree is a draft.
Ley 7/2023 de bienestar animal created a positive list of companion animals, but the Real Decreto fixing it was only put to public hearing on 16-17 Apr 2026 (DSCA) - not approved. Until then exotic pets stay legal subject to invasive-species and CITES rules.
