Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information thatonemap.com and maps.thatonemap.com (the "Site") collects, why, and the choices you have. The Site is run by One Map ("One Map", "we", "us"). Questions: maps@thatonemap.com.
The short version: we don't ask for your name, email or any account. We count visits and votes using random IDs, not identities. We never sell your data.
1. What we collect
| What | Details | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Visit statistics (our own) | A random ID stored in your browser, a per-visit session ID, the page you viewed, how you arrived (for example TikTok or YouTube), your country (from our host's network, not GPS), whether you're on a phone or computer, and clicks on site buttons. | To see which pages and features people use |
| Google Analytics | Google Analytics 4 sets cookies and collects usage data such as pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser type, and site events. Google may process your IP address to provide the service. | Traffic and audience statistics |
| Votes and suggestions | Which topics you voted for (linked to a random ID in your browser) and any topic you suggest. Suggestions are public on the vote board. | To run the vote board and pick upcoming maps |
| Network fingerprint | A salted, one-way hash of your IP address. We never store the IP address itself. | To limit spam and vote stuffing |
| Things saved only on your device | Your daily-game progress and streak, and the country you last looked up. These stay in your browser and are not sent to us. | To remember your progress |
| Emails you send us | Your email address and whatever you write. | To reply to you |
We do not collect your name, phone number, address or payment details on the Site. Please don't put personal information in topic suggestions.
2. Comments on our videos
The vote board also counts topic requests left as public comments on our TikTok and YouTube videos. We show only totals (for example "12 asked in comments"), never usernames.
3. Cookies and browser storage
Google Analytics uses cookies such as _ga and _ga_*. Our own features use your browser's local storage for the random IDs and saved progress described above. You can block or clear cookies and site data in your browser settings at any time. The Site still works, but your votes and game streak may reset. Visitors in the EU, UK and Switzerland are asked first, and Google Analytics cookies are only set if they accept. You can change your choice with the "Cookie settings" link at the bottom of the home page. To opt out of Google Analytics on every site, use Google's opt-out add-on.
4. Who processes the data
We use a small number of service providers, who handle data on our behalf:
- Carrd: hosts the Site.
- Cloudflare: network delivery and visitor country lookup.
- Supabase: database for votes, suggestions and visit statistics.
- Google Analytics: traffic statistics (see Google's Privacy Policy).
We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. These providers may process data in the United States and other countries.
5. Links to other sites
The Site links to TikTok, YouTube and sometimes partner brands. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and we don't control what they collect.
6. Children
The Site is for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email us and we will delete it.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK, Brazil or California), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or object to the processing of your personal information, and to complain to your local data protection authority. Because we use random IDs rather than names, the easiest way to remove what's linked to you is to clear this Site's data in your browser. For anything else, email maps@thatonemap.com and we will respond within 30 days. Where the law requires a legal basis, we rely on our legitimate interest in running and improving the Site, and on your consent where consent is required.
8. Security
Data is sent over encrypted connections, and our database blocks direct public access. No system is perfectly secure, but we collect as little as possible to keep the risk low.
9. Changes
If we update this policy, we'll change the effective date above. Significant changes will be noted on the Site.
Terms of Use
By using thatonemap.com you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Site.
1. Using the Site
You may browse, vote, suggest topics and play the daily game for personal, non-commercial use. Don't:
- manipulate votes with bots, scripts or multiple devices
- overload or attack the Site
- scrape it in bulk
- submit content that is unlawful, hateful, harassing, sexual, spam, or that contains someone's personal information
2. Your suggestions
When you suggest a topic, you give One Map a free, worldwide, non-exclusive, perpetual license to display it and to make videos about it. We may edit, hide or remove any suggestion or vote, and we choose which topics to map at our discretion. Votes help us decide but don't guarantee a video.
3. Our content
The One Map name, logo, maps, videos, graphics and site design belong to One Map. You may share links and embed our videos through the platforms' own share tools. Don't republish, re-upload or sell our maps or videos without written permission. Map outlines are based on public-domain geographic data.
4. No warranty
The Site and its content are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, including accuracy, completeness or fitness for a particular purpose.
5. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, One Map is not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages, or for any loss arising from your use of the Site or from relying on its content. Our total liability for any claim is limited to US $50.
6. Changes and contact
We may update these terms or change or discontinue the Site at any time; the effective date above shows the latest version. These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state where One Map is based, except where your local consumer law gives you rights that can't be waived. Contact: maps@thatonemap.com.
Map Disclaimer
One Map videos and this Site are for general information and entertainment only. They are not legal advice.
- Laws change often, differ between states, provinces and cities, and include exceptions that a 20-second map can't show. "Banned", "restricted" and "legal" are simplified summaries.
- We research every map against current laws and official sources, but we can make mistakes, and information can go out of date after a video is published.
- Before you travel, buy, carry, import or do anything a map covers, check the current rules with official government sources, an embassy, or a qualified lawyer.
- Country names, borders and territories are shown for illustration and don't imply any position on disputed areas.
Spotted an error? Email maps@thatonemap.com with a source and we'll review it.
Sponsorships and Affiliate Disclosure
One Map may work with brands. When a video or page is sponsored, or includes an affiliate link (where we may earn a commission if you buy, at no extra cost to you), we will label it clearly, for example "Sponsored", "Ad" or "Paid partnership". Our maps' facts are never for sale: a sponsor can't change which countries are marked banned, restricted or legal.
