Counted as banned: a national law in force in 2026 that either bans partially hydrogenated oils (the main source of artificial trans fat) or caps industrial trans fat at 2 g per 100 g of fat in ALL foods - the WHO's definition. Rules that only cover oils and margarine, labelling-only rules, or laws not yet in force are shown as restricted. Natural trans fat in butter, milk and meat is never part of these laws.

Each country in the lists names the source for its rule; countries not listed had no qualifying national law in these sources. Laws as of Oct 23, 2026. We map the law on the books, not how well it is enforced.
26 of the 77 countries listed rely on EU Reg (EU) 2019/649, the newest worldwide data we found. Countries with a newer source were checked against current law.
