Is sex selection illegal in Canada?
Yes. Sex selection is banned in Canada. Even checking an IVF embryo's sex: up to 10 years in prison.
Assisted Human Reproduction Act (S.C. 2004, c. 2) s.5(1)(e): no person may do anything to ensure or increase the chance an embryo is of a particular sex, or identify the sex of an in vitro embryo, except for a sex-linked disorder; s.60: up to $500,000 fine and/or 10 years' prison on indictment (Justice Laws).
