Is gambling illegal in China?

Partly. Gambling is restricted in China. Casinos and betting are banned. Only two state lotteries are legal.

All gambling is banned in mainland China except the state Welfare and Sports lotteries; the Ministry of Public Security shut 4,500 illegal online gambling platforms and probed 73,000 cross-border cases in 2024 (Yogonet/AsGam, Feb 2025). Macao is a territory, not coloured.
